IRS Form 8868
Along with the IRS Form 990 and its variants, there are a few related IRS Forms that nonprofits often come across.
IRS Form 8868 is a form used by a nonprofit to request a 6 month filing extension for their IRS Form 990.
IRS Form 8879-EO is a e-filing transmittal form for the IRS 990. Thus often an office or director of the nonprofit will sign IRS Form 8879-EO in order to authorize their accounting firm to e-file their IRS 990 for them.
IRS Form 8453-EO is similar to IRS Form 8879-EO in that it is an e-filing transmittal that can be used to authorize the e-filing of the organizations IRS 990.
